About Bernstorff Slot
Bernstorff Castle is one of the earliest buildings in the neoclassical style — not only in Denmark, but throughout Europe. It was originally built as a summer residence for Count Bernstorff. It only became a castle when then-Crown Prince Christian VIII bought it.
The Royal Family used the Royal Palace as a “summer residence” until 1939, when the Emergency Management Agency took over the buildings for their commanding officer training. Thus, the Castle was a “closed” educational site until 2009.
Then it was transformed into the Hotel and Conference Center, which today also holds many open and public events.
The Proud Story
Bernstorff Slots History
The tale of Bernstorff Castle starts with Count Johan Hartwig Ernst von Bernstorff.
Count Bernstorff built his “maison de plaisance” here, where a pheasant farm was formerly located. It took 6 years to build the house, which was the summer residence of the Bernstorffs, until a certain Struensee put him off the commission as foreign minister.
A strong team
Who are we?
The staff at Bernstorff Castle are hand-picked.
We do it because we like it — and each other. That is why Bernstorff Slot's Director, Kirsten Daell, attaches great importance to the fact that the employees of the Castle are “one big family” that loves to provide the best. For the sake of the guests.
